Bishop's Medal / Schools Service
We went to Kildare for our annual Schools Service. We were absolutely thrilled to come in third place in the Bishop’s Medal Competition. Congratulations to our friends in St. John’s who won the competition. It was a very happy bus trip home!
Fun Fridays - Now with added swimming!!!
May is swimming season for Sandylane N.S. We are really enjoying our Friday swimming lessons.
Cities of the Future - Completed
We spent many weeks constructing Cities of the Future. Lots of renewable technologies featured as we attempted to imagine a more sustainable way of living.
Creative Schools - Drama Lessons with a Pro
Anthony Goulding, a professional drama teacher worked with us for four weeks as part of the Creative Schools initiative. We really enjoyed working with him and our teacher picked up lots of tips and drama games.
Feb/March
Inspired by 3rd and 4th class’ excellent projects, this month 5th and 6th class are constructing cities of the future.
The boys and girls really enjoyed playing a variety of Brass and Woodwind instruments when the Portarlington Brass Band paid us a visit.
As part of World Book Day, 5th and 6th class sorted our Library. We found so many great books we didn’t know we had!
We had great fun playing a variety of games as Gaeilge with Junior and Senior infants as part of Seachtaine Na Gaeilge.
Preparations for our entry to the Bishop’s Medal Competition have begun!
2018/2019 Term Two - January
This month, 5th and 6th class have had great fun during their pottery lessons with Fin the Potter.
We explored magnetism in Science this month.
In Visual Arts this month, we studied the work of Rene Magritte.
2018/2019 - Term One
Our Christmas Nativity
On the 16th December, Sandylane had its Nativity and Carols service. Here are some pictures of one of our rehearsals.
Our Christmas Show and a Random Conga line :)
5th and 6th worked so hard on their section of our amazing in-school Nativity Show. They made their own backdrops, improvised most of their own dialogue and they composed their own background music.
Rugby and Stations
5th and 6th class have been working so hard that their teacher has been delayed in updating our web page. Apologies !!!!
Since September, we have been implementing station teaching in Maths and English. We are currently developing Gaeilge stations and they will be in operation soon. Have a look at msome of the images of our first term to date!!
